Description:
The color is intense ruby red. The perfumes are complex, very sweet and fruity, characterized by notes of plum, blackberry, and ripe cherry, alongside vanilla and licorice scents. The structure is powerful, large and silky. An extremely balanced wine, with a very persisting finish.
Winery:
Castello Banfi is a family owned estate in the Brunello region of Tuscany. Known in the 13th century as Poggio alle Mura, Castello Banfi is a rarety among Italian wine estates. The most gratifying of all its praises is the one of neighboring vintners who acknowledge Banfi's role in pioneering a new are in Brunello and bringing the wine world's attention to Montalcino. Wine Spectator Magazine have ranked Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino and the Riserva Poggio all' Oro Brunello di Montalcino in their top 10 wines of the year twice in the last three years.
Wine Making:
The grapes are vinified with a brief maceration. Once the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are completed, the wine is aged for a short period in small oak barrels and bottled in the Spring following the harvest. An appropriate bottle aging follows. The best tradition of the Sangiovese grape in Tuscany that, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, allows a youthful and intensely fruity blend. The ideal companion of simple dishes but also suitable for more complex matches.
