Very deep red color. The nose is complex, with aromas of blackberry jam and tobacco accompanied by hints of vanilla. The structure is very important, soft and balanced. Long and persistent finish. Excellent long aging wine.
Winery:
Castello Banfi is a family owned estate in the Brunello region of Tuscany. Known in the 13th century as Poggio alle Mura, Castello Banfi is a rarety among Italian wine estates. The most gratifying of all its praises is the one of neighboring vintners who acknowledge Banfi's role in pioneering a new are in Brunello and bringing the wine world's attention to Montalcino. Wine Spectator Magazine have ranked Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino and the Riserva Poggio all' Oro Brunello di Montalcino in their top 10 wines of the year twice in the last three years.
Wine Making:
The grape harvest is followed by a maceration of 12-13 days. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature - controlled hybrid stainless steel & wood tanks (27-29°C). About 90% of the wine is aged for 2 years in French oak barriques - manufactured according to Banfi’s specifications - and the remaining 10% in Slavonian oak casks. Before release, the wine is bottle-aged for an additional 12 months. The first result of more than two decades of experimental research, Poggio alle Mura is a superb example of the best synthesis of terroir, selection and technological innovation. Estate-bottled from the splendid sun drenched vineyard adjacent to the Castello this Brunello encompasses a full body and complexity unique to the genre.
