Description:
Central Bierzo is a sinuous basin of worn-down hills full of ferns and honeysuckle, blue lavender, bright yellow prickled broom and the riverside crops. Profuse vegetation cover that grows in young Ter tiar y soils, with a chalky-clay composition dotted with quartzite. Higher up, the surrounding mountains stand out for their far more remote geology. On their hillocks and slopes the scattered oaks provide shelter to fields of rockrose, heather
and oregano.
The sum of the Bierzo landscapes, their vegetation and diverse soils are condensed and asserted in Pétalos. Made entirely from old vines in Corullón and other municipalities, this is a young, fragrant wine which is able to express all the hues and shades of the region.
Winery:
Descendientes de Jose Palacios
Palacios comes from the large and esteemed Rioja winemaking family of Bodegas Palacios Remondo. In his early 20s Alvaro Palacios interned in Bordeaux at the side of Christian Moueix, the celebrated winemaker of Pomerol châteaus of Pétrus and Trotanoy. Upon his return to Spain he originally decided against getting involved in the family business and instead he pursued his own ventures where he would have the freedom to make distinctive, top-quality wines. His success in Priorat inspired him to search again for something new, this time putting his faith in the potential of Bierzo.
