Description:
The constellation of vineyards that make up the estate extend over the steep hills that flank the centre of Corullón. It is an area with elements of continental, Mediterranean and Atlantic climates, all at the same time.
The vineyards are planted on Palaeozoic substratum. This is the oldest geology on the Iberian Peninsula, which emerges to the surface in the shape of slate soils dotted with occasional quartzite. There are Mencía vines rooted here that date back 50, 75 and even 90 years. Their dark-skinned grapes are painstakingly selected to make Villa de Corullón an open, extroverted wine which brings together and harmonises disparate heights, aromas and lights: singular influences that only coincide with the complexity of the valleys in this municipality.
Winery:
Descendientes de Jose Palacios
Palacios comes from the large and esteemed Rioja winemaking family of Bodegas Palacios Remondo. In his early 20s Alvaro Palacios interned in Bordeaux at the side of Christian Moueix, the celebrated winemaker of Pomerol châteaus of Pétrus and Trotanoy. Upon his return to Spain he originally decided against getting involved in the family business and instead he pursued his own ventures where he would have the freedom to make distinctive, top-quality wines. His success in Priorat inspired him to search again for something new, this time putting his faith in the potential of Bierzo.
