Description:
The village trocken has a rasping minerally dryness that almost borders on the medicinal. Length and substance leave no doubt about the inherent quality, but this will never become the house wine at St. Theresa’s convent. Very serious, very austere, very powerful. Michael Schmidt Really racy and exciting and accessible. Lovely pure finish. Already just the job in a steely way. Just off dry. Mountain-stream stuff. On a hot day you would gobble this up! Winery:
Fritz Haag
Fritz Haag is a wine producer located in Brauneberg in on the Mosel river. It produces a complete range of wines made from Riesling, from dry expressions to luscious botrytised wines. The well-known Erste Lage vineyards Brauneberger Juffer and Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr are synonymous with Fritz Haag, which is also known by the name Dusemonder Hof. In total, vineyard holdings cover 19 hectares (46 acres), and the vines are planted on Devonian slate soils on a slope of up to 80 degrees. This terroir is well-suited to Riesling, providing a cool, well-drained environment that allows for full ripening without sacrificing acidity. As a result, Fritz Haag wines are intense and balanced, and many of the top examples can be aged for many years. Today, Fritz Haag is headed by Oliver Haag who took over in 2005 after training at well-known estates such as Weingut Dönnhoff in the Nahe and Weingut Karthäuserhof in the Ruwer. Fritz Haag is a member of the VDP and produces a range of Prädikatswein with various sweetness levels.
