Description:
Tempranillo, Graciano. Although it might seem like an old established winery Marqués de Cáceres was just launched in 1970. The vines for Gaudium are located in San Vicente and Cenicero (Rioja Alta) and they are 40-100 years old. Low yields (3,500 kg/ha), hand-harvested, sorting table, 18-24 months in new French oak. Rioja integrated style. Deep ruby colour fading to garnet. Very ripe and intense nose, concentrated fruit (marmalade), coffee, toasty and leather. Clean and complex nose showing some positive evolution. The palate is less expressive as the leather dominates followed by a cacao sensation. Chalky tannins, flabby acids but still correct balance. More showy than refined. Ferran Centelles
