Vinos y cavas Maset del Lleó has always been a pioneering and leading company in the wine producing sector in direct selling to customers. The origins of Maset del Lleó winery go back to 1777, when the land was part of the manor of Montserrat Abbey and the Massana family, today the winery owners, had to pay a tithe to work the land. Since then, eight generations of the Massana family have been linked to agriculture on the Maset del Lleó estate. The family never ceased to persevere with the cultivation of the vine. Not even the phylloxera plague in the 19th century put a stop to the family tradition. And so in 1917, Josep Massana Carbó made the first Maset del Lleó cava. In 1958, when Maset del Lleó was already a consolidated wine and cava producing company, Antoni Massana bought an old lorry and started distributing fruit, vegetables, wine and cava directly to customers in Barcelona. In this way one of Maset del Lleó's distinctive features came into operation: service direct to the customer. At the end of the 1980s, Maset del Lleó continued to make weekly deliveries in Barcelona, taking the opportunity to take orders for the following week. The development of telephony led to a better, much more personalised and efficient service, and resulted in the Maset del Lleó system of telephone sales that we have of today. This direct and personal service with the client initiated a fruitful period of expansion which led Maset del Lleó into transforming and improving the original winery, without losing the family character of the business.
