Winery:
Schloss Gobelsburg
The winery was established by Monks of the Zwettl Monastery in 1171, making it the oldest Austrian winery. Schloss Gobelsburg’s management was taken over by Michael & Eva Moosbrugger in 1996. More than eight centuries later, and still inspired by the monastic ethos of simplicity and strictness, the wines continue to possess a unique and authentic character. Following the traditional path of the monks, all wines are produced organically. Today Schloss Gobelsburg is one of the most awarded Austrian wineries and famous for producing state of the art Gruner Veltliner- Austria’s national grape variety. Michael Moosbrugger has been awarded ‘Best Winemaker’ in 2006 by Falstaff, the most influential Austrian wine magazine, and the highest recognition for a winemaker in Austria.
