Description:

Surh Cellars Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast 2020 is a testament to the rich winemaking heritage of the Sonoma Coast region. This exquisite Chardonnay is crafted from the low-yielding, steep hillside vineyard of Wente clone, ensuring the utmost quality and concentration of flavors.

The grapes are meticulously whole-cluster pressed and barrel-fermented, with 20% new French oak and 80% neutral French oak, striking a perfect balance between complexity and freshness. The wine is aged for 14 months, with monthly lees stirring to enhance texture and depth. The winemaker's decision to retain a portion of malic acid in the finished wine adds a lively and vibrant character.

On the palate, this Chardonnay unveils a captivating array of citrus, apple, pear, and butterscotch notes. Despite the barrel fermentation, the wine showcases a fruit-forward profile, with neither buttery nor oaky flavors dominating. The layered texture is expected to develop gracefully over time, with the potential to age beautifully for up to a decade.

This versatile Chardonnay pairs exceptionally well with an array of appetizers, such as smoked trout, butternut squash soup, gravlax, and crème fraîche, making it an ideal choice for any occasion.
