Weingut Brundlmayer
Weingut Bründlmayer is an Austrian wine producer located in Langenlois, Kamptal, approximately 43 miles (70 km) northwest of Vienna. The estate specializes in whites wines primarily from the Grüner Veltliner grape, as well as Riesling and Chardonnay. From 1947 onwards, a selection of the estate's most valued wines have been stored in the 700-year-old "vinothek" (wine collection) in order to provide a historical archive for future generations. The estate comprises of three largely terraced vineyards: Zöbinger Heiligenstein, Lamm and Käferberg. The Zöbinger Heiligenstein vineyard is located on ancient sandstone slopes that sit high above the river Kamp. The Lamm vineyard is situated on the eastern slopes of one of Austria's most renowned vineyards – the Heiligenstein, which has a unique geological formation of lime-rich clay that imparts intensity and body to the wines. The Käferberg vineyard has soils of clay marine deposits overlying poor, primary rock. Bründlmayer produces four DAC Grüner Veltliner wines and five DAC Riesling wines from its classified vineyards. Although mostly known for its range of high-quality white wines, the estate also makes a selection of red wines from the traditional Austrian grape varieties of Zweigelt, Blauburger and Sankt Laurent, as well as the widely cultivated Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir varieties. These red and white wine grapes also form the basis of many of Weingut Bründlmayer's Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and sparkling wines. Proprietor Willi Bründlmayer places great importance on the ecological balance of his vineyards and only uses organic fertilizers for the cultivation of his vines. He relies on natural resources: no herbicides are employed and the vines are trained just above ground level to maximize on the beneficial effects of the soil's heat on the grapes.
